Shed layout.

You can see from the pics that I now have a very small space in which to fit Cubbie plus 3 others. I need a workbench or two, my pillar drill and chop saw, storage space for timber and bike parts (going to have some in the roof but also places for things I need on a regular basis), shelves, the bike lift aka the old hospital bed and, I was chatting to a guy last night who informed me of a spate of bike thefts in the local area, so now I need some extra super dooper double strength bike security in there somewhere. I was thinking of a floor anchor thingy, but once you've fitted one of those, it's kinda there to stay, so I don't want to put it somewhere where I'm going to trip over it all the time. Might I require two, to fix 4 bikes to? Or could all of them be arranged around one fitting? Oh yes, need to leave room to actually WORK on the bikes too.

The floor space is approx 15' x 12', the double door at the front, window at the back, and small door at the rear of the left hand side, and a window in that wall too. So the only side without a windy is the right hand side.

Already got the mower...strimmer...chainsaw....tumble dryer....tins of paint and bits of wood and 3 rolls of roofing felt in there....help....

Also, does one have the strip lights going short ways across the shed or long ways? I've only got two at the moment but am hoping someone nice will acquire some more before too long...

Oh yes, lining. The walls are very thin, I was considering some insulation but that could take forever to do, and I want to get the bikes in and start on the sidecar building project sooner rather than later. Come to think of it, there might be some sheets of plaster board hiding somewhere...or maybe even some ply....I await your layout suggestions...catch ya later people.

Right here are my comments!
1. Get something on the roof first,(anyone got some spare box profile sheets).
2.Insulation,I would not worry about that unless you are having a bedroom, as a free flow of air is best for keeping the bikes from rusting.
3.As you know i have 2 garages with double doors, and several sheds, the garages have never and will never have a car in them, so i think you should forget aboot a double opening door and just have one door enough to get a bike in and oot. It would also give you a lot more room. If you did away with the small door at the top it would also give you more room, it`s not the door that takes up the space but the room you need for access.
Security, I will speak to you aboot that tomorrow.

You need a shed for bikes, and bikes alone. other things will have to go in a different shed. It wont work otherwise....

As for anchors, I've seen a system that uses anchor points in the floor, but nothing sticking up: you insert or remove the anchor pin, and it locks in place so you can chain or cable the bike down. That system allows you to install multiple anchor points, so you have flexibility in your arrangements. After all, you must leave room for the recliner, the massage chair, the nail care stand...

Can you not buy a ready made one??!!

I need to give you my passwords to get my blog looking as interesting as yours!!

Hmm, lots to reply to. MZ Mark, you're first - it's taken this long to get ONE shed up, can you imagine how long it will take for Shed II??!!! Nice idea though...pop in if you're passing...

Slick, er, good points you raised there, need time to think about the options.

Who left that link for me? it reminded me that I have a book entitled something like "How to build your dream garage", I had a look at it last night.

LYNNERS QUINE!! Good to hear from you, I'm gonna have to get a report from you on classic bikes in NZ. Can I not buy a ready made one what? Hic.

I agree with His Slickness about the doors...it's just natural keep the opening space clear but wall space is precious. I had a friend who was re-doing his kitchen and I got the old cabinets, top and bottom. If you could fall into something like that you'd be golden. The sink made a decent parts washer, too (just add a pump and some plumbing)

Ahh, well that explains it...I'm not much of a sci-fi guy...and the Brit imports are usually shown 5-10 years after...I'm more of a Python, Fawlty Twrs, East Enders, Are You Being Served? and Lovejoy fan...although they're like hen's teeth now...although I keep looking for Cubbie's tour through the Grampians on BBC America

As to working on multiple bikes...I found this on the web... http://www.classicbikeexperience.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/images/Promo_053.351141401_large.jpg ...check out the rolling work stand...I think this will be the solution to my problems as I'll be able to push all the bikes I'm not working on to the side and roll the subject bike to the center...you could put 2 along the 15' side - end to end and build a bench along the other 15' side...
and yes I'd keep woodworking and bikes seperate if possible...been there done that...

while your out checking the sheep, see if there's a ram with an attitude that can keep an eye on your shed so as to provide 'security'...lol

Bob Bob BOB, that's a fine idea, workbench on wheels. Hmmmmmmm....if only.....mind you, this hospital bed I've got as a lift might have wheels one day...eh Slick.... Hahaha, just re-read your sheep related comment lol, we've got a ram called Griff (he's Welsh ya know) who jumps up and down rather enthusiastically and bombs around the field - he'd make a good security guard!

Good to see you again yesterday at the Classic Bike Show GBC - and to meet you at last Mrs BC.

Pity Cubbie wasn't there this year though!
