Here's a bit of interesting / good news. A snippet from a VMCC Section newsletter I get "As you may be aware from today (18th Nov 2012) it is no longer necessary to have an MOT for a pre 1960 vehicle, so *A Member* taxed his Francis Barnett online (no MOT for 7 years) and it went through no problem".

Still not sure if this is the good news the VMCC and others have made it out to be. Call me cynical but I think a few high profile accidents involving non-MOT'd vehicles and we will see the introduction of a limited use plate, where our old vehicles are only allowed to be used for very limited outings to registered events.
Even though I think of myself as a good mechanic I still like to have someone look at my bikes on a regular basis and sometimes pick up faults I have missed. I've already seen adverts on ebay for old cars saying " Floor needs a bit of welding and the sills need some work, but as its pre 1960 you don't need an MOT"
Good point Squire, what I'd be looking for is a mechanic who will do a sensibly price preMOT check for me, maybe in the spring time when the bikes have been hibernating for too long. And of course, the MOT is still be an option if owners wish to have the peace of mind. But having said that, how many times have you gone for an MOT and come away with a pass but a day or two later, something breaks or falls off.... Anyway, back to filling the new shed up....
