This has been in my box of Cub spares and I've never really looked at it - never really needed spares (oops that's temping fate!) but I thought it was about time I had a proper sort out of what's in there. So what is it and what is it from? No prizes, just the sheer satisfaction of being able to enlighten GBC and further expand her knowledge of old bike bits.

"Semi-unit construction" pops into my head. Wonder if it could be from a BSA A7. Googled "semi-unit construction" and that is one of the things that came up...of course they showed the primary side of the engine,so couldn't see much of the gearbox. A friend has some old Villiers motors that also were of Semi-unit construction with the gearbox bolted to the back of motor...rather than fixed with plates. At any rate, someone out there wants that.
It's a gearbox of some sort. I know very little about old British bikes, but I believe that Enfield gearboxes bolted to the engine, so it could be one of those. No doubt someone else will be along soon with the correct answer.

Hmmm, wonder what I can swap it for! And wonder why it was in the Cubbie spares box. Hope it hasn't contaminated my Triumph spares with BSA-itis
'...wonder what I can swap it for....' Chocolate, of course!!

BSA-itis????? Bite yer tongue.....nowt wrong with the offerings from Small Heath. Got two nails.....err...examples myself.
Any numbers stamped on the casings? Might be able to Google them for answer if so.
Soz I missed you on FB, Bodger, I tend to leave it on but I'm not always there. Some might agree! Theres only a very, very worn partial number, can't even read it - hud on, wil go check again.
UN - I was thinking more for some Terrier plungers or forks!
It looks quite like a Villers 2T gearbox, its got the cut out for the carb at the top, but the frame mounts are different.... I'll dig a bit further.
Terrier plungers, they look like they might be the same as the plunger Bantam, if they are Bantam parts might be easier to find, just a thought.
I believe the correct term is "Beezer-itus", and as far as known only afficts humans. I've caught it a few times myself...
Looks like Kawa is right. Compare it with this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VILLIERS-MOTORCYCLE-2T-GEARBOX-/120723044077?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item1c1ba776ed

Ok, where's my comment gone ????

Gotcha loud and clear John. There was an issue with Blogger which apparently wiped comments / posts or just stopped people accessing them. Seems to be working ok now...
